The Newry Purge

1916 Societies is a self-described "Irish separatist movement" founded in 2009. In a Facebook post on 24 June 2025, it announced that it was aware that members of one of its member branches, the Patrick Rankin Society, attended a rally in Newry organised by the Newry Says No group on the previous night. 1916 Societies announced that the Patrick Rankin Society was “stood down” pending on inquiry and disciplinary process. The post explained that attending these events went against their republican ethos and values. After the completion of the process, it announced in a Facebook post on 27 June that the Patrick Rankin Society was being disbanded completely with immediate effect. I don’t know any details of this story beyond this but there are a few things that this incident as described tells us. Cracks First and foremost, it shows that Red republican groups are starting to feel the effects of the undeniable surge in popular nationalism. What is this surge and where does it come...

Stay classy, Irish left - again

Image
Irish leftist (who has been identified elsewhere) unloads the expletives. Collective Irish left holler in delight, thinking this is a win. Invective is like red meat to the mentally juvenile. It is ironic though; the person is, if correctly identified, a noted scholar and theorist. Very articulate. And yet if this goes viral he may very well achieve fame as the face of your stereotypical high aggression deranged leftie fruitcake. Hardly anyone in the left camp seemed to know who he was based on his work, so this could well happen. This has also created false impression to them that he is some ordinary punter and not an ideologue.

Every red accusation is a confession

Image
Replace "far right" and "fascists" with "communists" in the above post and you get something approaching reality.

Patrick Rankin society disbanded

Image
Spare a thought for the Reds as their world is closes in on them. The days of the plain people being asleep while they cosplay with the flag are over. The plain people of Ireland are now reclaiming their symbols and there's nothing the Reds can do about it. The rank and file republicans of the Rankin Society must clearly have seen this too. Best of luck to the ex members, true republicans, unlike their former Red ideologue masters.

"Gaels"

Image
"Gaels" But who are the Gaels? They are an ethnolinguistic group. What is this? It is a group defined by common ethnicity (and language). They would no doubt have fellow travellers who would no doubt regard gael as a sectarian, tribal and borderline fascist concept.

Communists crack the whip

Image
It is getting to the point where "1916 societies" now have to reprimand their own members. Not only does their communist ideology have nothing to offer the plain people of Ireland, it is increasingly irrelevant to the concerns of rank and file republicans. Instead of graciously accepting this and allowing their members some leeway, and maybe even take the opportunity to reflect, they do what communists like to do; crack the whip. A useless ideology married with a jealously authoritarian approach - a recipe for success I am sure. Meanwhile the plain people of Ireland will go on, in search of leadership. Never change, Ireland against Fascism

Image
There are literally children in the picture, and yet no attempt whatsoever to put any limiter on the 'bigot' charge. The deranged harridans are becoming increasingly careless in the battle for hearts and minds.

Flag of Connolly

Image
Strange logic on display. James Connolly was cause X, he died for flag representing cause Y, therefore flag represents cause X. The cause of Ireland is not a socialist cause. The flag of Ireland is not a socialist flag. A socialist dying for Ireland does not change the cause of Ireland to one of socialism. Apart from that, describing James Connolly, a returned member of Irish diaspora, as an immigrant is absurd. They will attack ethnic nationalism without knowing the first thing about it.

White woman's burden

Image
A mask slip from this account? As they whitesplain to Irish people of colour that they should have opinions appropriate for Irish people of colour, you could almost sense the finger wagging such was the tone of condescension. As for talk about pulling the ladder up, why do they assume they climbed any ladder at all? The apparent racial profiling in this post is notable.  A truly anti-racist commentary would just criticise these people in the same terms as it does the rest of the protesters. If there was any baiting on Pepper's part they would ignore it. But this post singles them out for special treatment. As if they have specific obligations deriving from their skin colour which they have failed to discharge.

Cunningham on occupation

Image
Of course the poster boy for the "republican" left speaks of occupation of Ireland as an event in the past tense. This is shared without being noticed. The republicanism of the leftists is quite fake.

Kilcock

Image
The "Ireland against Fascism" account identifies as "republican" so technically comes within remit of this blog. But look at this pathetic effort to attack an individual for merely protesting and speaking his mind. Clearly trying to get him fired from his job. (Blurring and redacting is mine).

Reds insult Irish through false equivalence

Stay classy, Irish left

Bar woman calls female patrons "c" word. Deranged Irish left holler in delight.

Peak Frank Ryan aesthetic

"Republican aesthetics"

Communists are very concerned with the "aesthetics" of republicanism alright. Every accusation is a confession.

Losing the plot

Image
If "1916 societies" (a communist group that dresses itself up in symbols and iconography of the 1916 revolutionaries) was actually a patriotic group, they would advocate for a sensible approach to migration and there would be less opportunities for bad faith actors to win support. But no, they won't do that, because they are communists and they can't. And they are angry communists, so all they can do is alienate everyone.  Also, using a meme from the Michael Collins film is quite ironic considering their general stance on him, the Free State. The film is pretty much a hagiography of Collins.

Take it down again

Image
This will merit a more detailed entry but for now just noting the revisionism on display in the title, turning an anti-Treaty slogan into a 2025 anti-"fascist" (aka mass migration objector) slogan.

Irish left becoming more deranged

Image
This post was made by a leftist in reference to protests against Eid being celebrated in Croke Park. If name-calling was a gaelic sport, the author would certainly have an all-star or two at this stage; losers, inbreds, West Brits, morons, scum. If there is one thing the left excel at, it is this. Responses from fellow travellers also add to the collection: vermin, arseholes and many more. A general air of snobbery is apparent too, the idea that the protesters are uneducated thicks. But that is just a passing observation. It is certainly not a complaint because if the left were to take a higher road and speak more empathetically about their fellow countrypeople we'd be in serious trouble.  Thankfully, they are happy to throw vitriol and show their true selves, and that is grand. We won't have to worry about charm offensives. The aggressive and vitriolic tone shows raw hate. The left condemn hate in a notional sense, but there is clear hate for people to be seen here. It's...

Gaughan an anti-racist?

Image
Taking the bare facts of the event in question, based on the book passages provided, the communists take liberties in trying to project their generalised ideology onto Michael Gaughan, God rest him. He is described as a "republican and anti-racist". There is a traditional interpretation of his actions that sufficiently explains them. England's difficulty is Ireland's opportunity. If you are in an English prison, because you oppose English rule, and the English prisoners in the English prison start on another national group, it makes sense that you would oppose them in their endeavour. That's before going into the specific details of the situation, which I am not knowledgeable on. If there are relevant facts that support the communist interpretation, I will acknowledge them. The incident as described certainly shows that Gaughan was not racist or at least not racist to an extent that it overrode his Fenian hostility to Anglo-Saxons. But it does not show that he was...

Take it down

Image
The expression "Take it down from the mast" is an anti-Treaty  expression. Therefore this poster is changing its meaning. Red revisionism.
